The first John Wanamaker Department Store located at the southwest corner of 13th & Market Streets occupied the entire city block. A more modern building was built there as well and opened in 1903. The site of the original CHS building would have occupied the southeast corner of Market & Juniper Streets. By this date CHS was solidly ensconced at Broad & Green Streets for over forty years. Note the recently installed (1892)electric streetcar just rounding City Hall. Photo taken in 1895. Courtesy of www.phillyhistory.org |
