Welcome Park, situated at 2nd Street and Sansom Alley was built in 1982 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of William Penn's arrival aboard the Welcome;the park was commissioned by the Friends of Independence; the monument is a replica of the Slate Roof House, residence of William Penn which occupied the site of the present park (www.gophila.com)
