| When the first Central High School opened in 1838, the facility housed sixty-three students and a faculty of four professors. The building was located at South Juniper and Market Streets. The school moved into larger facilities located at Broad & Green Streets in 1854. "The authority of CHS moved the school system in a bureaucratic direction.
