Orest is a professor of Eastern European minorities at York University in Toronto, Canada,. He has taught courses on the history of Eastern Europe (Slovak Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania as well as the former Soviet Union. He teaches with a particular focus on nationalism, including the situation of minority communities. He is also the editor of Nationality Papers.
