Steve Green enjoys solving problems and helping people - the two most critical skills for a successful attorney. These skills make him a perfect fit at Astor, Weiss, Kaplan & Mandel, LLP- a law firm to which he brought his many years of practice experience in 2011. Like his colleagues, Steve views the practice of law as one in which people are the subject matter, not simply assets, claims or arguments. As a result, while some matters are “one-shot deals,” the majority of his client relationships are ongoing. He counts among his clients many second-generation family members, including successors in family businesses, who trust him with both their business and family legal matters. Mr. Green has practiced as a business, tax and estates partner in a large firm, associate general counsel for a New York Stock Exchange-listed company, in a small firm, and independently. His clients appreciate the breadth of his practice, as such varied experiences have enabled him to appreciate the many different concerns which arise for individuals and their businesses. He has taken companies public and helped neighborhood druggists sell their stores; he has planned and administered large estates, litigated probate challenges, and prepared simple Wills for individuals who otherwise would not have made satisfactory plans for their families. Steve is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Lafayette College and a Dean's List graduate of Columbia University Law School. He earned a Master of Laws in Taxation at New York University Law School. Mr. Green is admitted to practice in the Courts of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the United States Tax Court. He is a member of the Sections on Taxation, Business Law and Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law of the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations. He published “Understanding Estate Planning” as a layman's guide, and has also written about tax and guardianship issues for the Pennsylvania Bar Quarterly, The Jewish Exponent and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. His fine legal skills and ethics are evident in his Martindale-Hubbell®* rating of AV. Mr. Green has served as a volunteer attorney for abused children, and assisted parents in pursuing appropriate educational placements for their children with special needs. He has also rendered pro bono services for a social services organization in North Philadelphia, a Bucks County library devoted to the history of the American Revolution, and to individuals in need referred to him by social service agencies. He is a past president of the Associated Alumni of the Central High School of Philadelphia, and, of course, President of the 214th Class, and of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Lafayette College Alumni Association. An involuntarily retired, four games-per week fast pitch softball player and tennis enthusiast, Steve now enjoys golf (most of the time). He is married with two children and four grandchildren, all of whom tease him mercilessly.
