After graduating college Nick joined the U.S. Navy to protect our republic from the imminent invasion of hordes of North Vietnamese. Successfully completing this mission, he then plunged headlong into the world of commerce. (He quips that he couldnt go into medicine like most of our classmates cant stand the sight of blood.)Over the past 45 or so years Nick has been involved in sales, operations, administration, management and ownership. Industries include transportation, distribution, ice cream, truck leasing, designer fabrics, supermarkets, recreational vehicles and heavy duty trucks.
Nick notes that he retired twice unsuccessfully apparently, since he's currently employed full- time. Interesting opportunities presented themselves and, frankly, notes Nick, "his heart wasnt in retirement". Currently he's selling Freightliner trucks. Married once, divorced once. Nick states that " his ex is his best friend neither one of us can live with the other". Nick has one son, currently the proprietor of a motorcycle shop, one grandson and two step grandsons. Nick has lived in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Wilmington, Minneapolis, and his current home Suffolk, VA (Hampton Roads area). Nick notes that he has been extraordinarily fortunate- "beyond his wildest expectations having the opportunity to work in so many diverse occupations and industries and live in so many different cities... He couldnt have planned it any better". Nick has been playing with computers ever since the 5 ¼ floppy drives IMB PCs came out and is currently the computer guru at work. He loves trains, both real and model. He has an extensive HO model train collection. In one of his many occupations he had to travel extensively in the Northeast corridor via Amtrak perfect!
Nick's number one passion is cycling. He notes that he got into it kind of late in life but he's trying to make up for that by riding about 6,000 miles a year. So far Nick has clocked a total of over 80,000 miles under his own power. Nick manages to go to Europe at least once a year for a bike tour.
The photo is one of Nick's favorites, and is the one where he's collapsed five kilometers short of the peak of Mt. Ventoux in Provence. (He did make it to the top - as you will note in the photo).
