Situated on Logan Square, the Swann Memorial Fountain donated to the City of Philadelphia is restored and beautiful.
Behind the fountain are the Free Library of Philadelphia (left) and the Municipal Court of Philadelphia. The Fountain was dedicated in 1924 after being commissioned by Dr. Wilson Cary Swann, founder of the Philadelphia Fountain Society in memory of his wife Leda. The fountain was designed by Alexander Stirling Calder, son of Alexander Milne Calder, scupltor of the 250+ figures that adorn City Hall, including the bronze statue of William Penn that stands atop the building. The three native American statues on the fountain represent the Schuykill River, the Delaware River and the Wissahickon Creek - May 2007(A.Hirsh Photo) |
