The sloping grass knoll of the Robin Hood Dell was always the place to sit- on a blanket with your favorite date- and listen to the great music that eminated from the Dell. The amphitheatre adjacent to Ridge Avenue and Dauphin Street seats 10,000 fans of beautiful music. This location, in addition to being convenient to the regular public transit lines, Route 61 trackless trolley, the 'A' bus on Thirty-third Street, and the Routes 7,8 and 39 trolleys at their terminus at 33rd & Dauphin Streets. The 'Dell' was also located near the terminal of the Fairmount Park trolleys which ran to the Woodside Park and West Philadelphia until September 1946. Over the years many world-famous conductors, musicians and singers appeared in the concerts at the Robin Hood Dell. |
