Still In Education, even after Retirement
Hello- After thirty-five years in public education
as a teacher, supervisor and, finally, school
administrator, I first retired in 2002. Then,
after a brief hiatus, I returned to the classroom
in a private school for three years....Whew, hard
work! Then I was asked to serve as an interim
building principal for about four months. Good
thing, too, since the idea of doing the little
jobs (the honey-do lists)that fill your retired
years day after day was not for me. Now I am
substitute teaching back in the district where I
worked for more than thirty-two years. Every day
someone asks if I would come back as an
administrator. Teaching in today's public high
schools is a whole new experience from what we
had. Students have an array of tools or toys-
depending on how you look at it...to amuse
themselves. Technology in all its forms consumes
their waking hours. They are text messaging,on-
line or listening non-stop to music on their i-
pods, are on chat rooms, and even are taking
photos of tests for their buddies with their cell
phones....activities that we could not conceive
back in the fifties, and, from the perspective of
an administrator, not necessarily positive in the
realm of things. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the
experience, particularly the part of leaving at
the end of the day without the responsibilities of
an administrator or full-time teacher. My wife,
Pam, and I have been married for thirty-eight
years, have two grown children, not married, and
enjoy going to NYC and Philly to see shows and
visit museums. We also spend each summer in Cape
May or other resort for relaxation. It doesn't get
any better than this! Have a restful summer.

Hope he doesn't mind my providing this...haven't
heard of or from him in, I think, two years. I
believe he's still there, though.
Good luck! I've been looking for some of my
Girls' High chums...most without success...it's
sad...how one would lo-o-o-o-o-ve to reconnect--
if only for a little bit.~~Maria

Life comments
I am saddened to read of our dear classmates who have made
the
" Transition" already and I am also excited to begoin thinking
about the 50 th reunion. After all the schooling so many of us
have had - it's really only the memories and camaraderie of our
214 days that keps our interest and excitement (speaking at
least for myself) and I'm not exactly sure why....but I know it's
true!

Retired in Israel
Shalom Classmates from here in Israel. I retired
from the pulpit at 65.10 years of age. I had to
return to the USA because of dying parents- I
took care of them for 10 years and occupied a
pulpit in Palm Beach County. Prior to that for 7
years I helped absorb Ethiopian and Russian Jews
in Israel as the CEO of the Development
Foundation of two cities- Beer-Sheba and Netanya.
Prior to my immigration to Israel I was the
Senior Rabbi of the oldest Conservative
congregation of New England and the third oldest
in the USA- for 16 years. Prior to that I was the
Ass't Rabbi of Adas Israel Washington DC where
Yitzchak Rabin was a member. I had previously
served as the chief and only Rabbi of Korea and
was the Jewish Chaplain of Fort Knox and the
gold. Ariel Sharon was my guest at the Fort and
he arranged what was to be my future position in
Israel some 20 years later.
My greatest thrill in my career was my
relationship sith John Paul II - and my
relationships with the Prime Ministers/Presidents
of Israel. My first marriage brought me 4
daughters and my second marriage to an Israeli
added 3 children to the splendid blended with now
15 grandchildren together and living happily ever
after in Netanya. I am now the Senior Advisor to
the HILLEL Jewish Student Organizations of Israel
numbering some 40,000 students. My greatest CHS
moment was at a funeral believe it or not of an
elederly alumnus and the family asked me to sing
the CHS anthem which I have sung by heart at
every possible opportunity. My sermon about the
man was dovetailed into the words of the anthem.
He was on the ballfield, he was active for peace
and strife. And he labored for his parents. Thy
memories never die and CHS was probably the
single most important part of my life. I hope to
be able to be at the reunion. I have never been
able to make previous reunions because it was
the Sabbath - now I am trying to get there
without any religious conflicts. I just read the
obits of some of my friends - 66 years of age
seems young these days until you hear about
friends not making it with us. I hope to renew
in the year ahead. "n God We Trust"and may that
God never be defined for America - Richie
