After considering about a dozen sites,The penultimate choice for the new CHS facility was to be at the Corner of Old York Road & W. Somerville Avenues, convenient to the Broad & Olney PRT(pre-PTC) transportation hub. The site, however, was short-lived with the site at Ogontz & Olney Avenues being the ultimate choice. The reason for the change of site is not clear, although there is much speculation. The property being adjacent to the Albert Einstein Medical Center may have been also considered at the time for proposed hospital expansion. Another, perhaps more plausible reason for the change of site, was the notion that the Ogontz and Olney site was more expansive and situated above the din of the streets, thus more suitable for the sprawling campus for the new building.Photo taken July 10, 1936 (Photo courtesy of www.phillyhistory.org)
