President
Central High School
A Message from Dr. Pavel-
It is wonderful to be able to congratulate each of you individually, and all of you collectively, as the 214th graduating class of Central High School achieves its fiftieth reunion. It is gratifying to know that you are ready and prepared to see yourselves as 50th year Central High School graduates. Our physical building has undergone many changes since your commencement exercises. A major addition was completed in the mid-90's including a brand new gym, science classrooms and an art suite. In 2005 construction began and was completed in one year for a brand new library-communications center- a project that was totally funded by voluntary giving and coordinated by the Associated Alumni of Central High School.
As one of the four School District of Philadelphia high schools that were constructed prior to America's involvement in World war II, our building is a little frayed around the edges, but our students are exceptional and our teachers outstanding. There is an aphorism that states the more things change, the more they remain the same. Although the building, teachers and the students have all changed since you began your path to Ogontz and Olney in September of 1956, it absolutely is the same in terms of its mission, goals and quality of young people.
Best wishes, and feel free to come and visit your alma mater at any time, but particularly during this, the 50th year anniversary of your graduation.
Sincerely,
Sheldon S. Pavel
June 2010
